REVIEWS OF TOTAL RECONSTRUCTION (REMIX CD 2008)
BRAVE WORDS & BLOODY KNUCKLES
Rated: 8 / 10
Only Norway’s V:28 could get away with an album
this obscure. For those in the know, the band’s previous three albums explored
a prophecy about the downfall of humanity and the end of the world, culminating
in last year’s brilliant VioLution. The artistic
genius and sheer innovation of their back catalogue dictated the need for just
such an album. Total Reconstruction is this album, which sees the band’s
post-apocalyptic themes reworked by various Cold Meat Industry artists. Not
only does this release signify the end of the band, but it also showcases the
experimental side of V:28. Every artist who
participated was given complete control with their reworking, and what we are
left with is an album imbued with the industrial, experimental and ambient
sounds of each respective talent. Take for example Beyond Sensory Experience,
whose remix of the track ‘Patten Of The Weak’
transfixes the listener with its dark, ambient soundscape,
while retaining just enough of what made the original song so spectacular. No
words can do this album justice. It needs to be experienced to be believed.
