TOTAL RECONSTRUCTION

The idea of doing a remix album
was spawned at an early stage in the band's existence. Carefully selected
artists were invited to use V:28 source material to make their own
interpretation of a chosen track. Not only does this release mark the end of the
band, but it also showcases the experimental side of the band and much of what
has been a great source of inspiration for the cinematic and apocalyptic sound
of V:28.
With the founding member of V:28 being a huge fan of CMI and with many CMI acts
covering the V:28 tracks in fantastic new versions there was no discussion which
label would be more suited releasing this obscure sampler than Cold Meat
Industry.

Comments from the featured artists:
I know
this sounds strange coming from me, being one of the most active composers in
the scene, but I have had a really inactive year. As spring approached I felt
more drawn to the world of images and art, and my creative music flow was
drained. However, when I received the material to remix from Kristoffer the
inspiration came back. The track I remixed is a majestic interpretation of
"Desert Generator", filtered through a vortex of infernal machinery and
delivered from a womb of disease. Let this be a lesson in how to reach inside
you to find salvation in nothing. Amen.

Megaptera is back for a very brief visit. This time to do a remix
for V:28. It's not easy to just crawl back up from the abyss and get everything
going again, so we used the classic Megaptera track "More Disturbance" as the
basis for the remix: Slow escalating ambient sounds and slow pounding drums,
adding faster and harder beats at the end.

to work with artists sharing much of the same philosophy and thoughts as
yourself, both regarding music, and life in general, is always very inspiring
and motivating. so, when christ-offer (heh), a long-term connection, asked if i
were interested in doing a re-interpretation for this remix collection, i gladly
jumped at the opportunity... always on the lookout for new things, other
perspectives, different expectations... when working with it, the motivation,
the driving force was mainly the old alchemical motto 'solve et coagula', to
dissolve and coagulate, to separate and join together, the breaking down of
elements, and their coming together, in the process of transmuting base metal
into gold, or arriving at the philosopher's stone). at the same time i decided
on a few words to stick to through the process (as i often do, to have some kind
of direction or goal): black, empty, hopeless... the 'gold' that i wanted to
arrive at... so i abandoned the original version, started working with the
source material i were given, the samples, the unconnected separate tracks, to
make something else out of it, cut it in pieces, reassemble, whatever came to
mind, not constraining any idea or impulse. a sketch. then repeating this
process a few times, breaking things down to their basic elements, and
rebuilding something else. and it surely resulted in something a bit different
from the original, didn't it?

As an artist I enjoy those times I get invited to unexcpected
projects, as this V:28 remix record. This allows me to play around with sounds I
would most likely not end up making myself... I have not listened to the
original version of this piece before making the remix. The result I must say I
find enjoyable... Hope you like it too...
